MARTIN IVNING “ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS5 FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS”
I studied and learned photoshop, like most photographers – through separate video tutorials and articles, extracts from forums and books. A huge impetus was given to me by Dan Margulis’s book, which I’m still going to write about, but, unfortunately, it doesn’t fully reveal many of the Photoshop tools, especially the masks, as well as the various filters that I had to meet from additional sources.
This method of learning, of course, leads to gaps in the general understanding of Photoshop. Therefore, I began to look for a reference book that would fill these gaps, having built the overall picture of the work with the program. And she found it in the person of Martin Ewning’s book “Adobe Photoshop CS5 for Photographers”.
The book is a complete and competent tutorial on Photoshop, which today is not enough – count them by fingers. Unlike the “for dummies” manuals, it does not provide a specific processing sequence for a particular case, but tells about tools and methods in general, that it will allow the smart processor to decide which of these tools to use.
A DVD is attached to the book, which also contains several chapters from the textbook and additional materials. Continue reading
PHOTO ASSEMBLY OF THE FACE: HOW TO REPLACE A FAILED GRIMASO BY A BEAUTIFUL SMILE
Today, visiting my blog are American photographers Nina and Cecilia, whose photos I’ve already shown. They will tell about how to make photomontage of the face. Some of the actions described below will save you from headaches in situations where someone in the group portrait blinked, twisted his face, or turned away. Especially often such situations happen with small children. According to Nina and Cecilia, many clients do not even know that the face was taken from another photo. The task of the photographer – to replace the face so that no one noticed.
So, the picture above shows two photos used for the photomontage. The photo on the right is the main one, only the face is taken from the photo on the left.

ONLINE ANALOGUE PHOTOSHOP FOR QUICK TREATMENT
In order not to occupy disk space and load the system, I do not install some programs on my laptop, including Photoshop. An intelligent color correction on a laptop monitor never goes out, and it is also not very convenient to clean the garbage and clean the skin with a touchpad. However, it also happens that the computer is not at hand, and an elementary correction of photographs is sometimes required.
For this purpose I use Photoshop online, more precisely, not quite Photoshop, but its online analogue Pixlr. For a quick correction, it has all the basic tools (in the picture above – the vertical panel on the right), as well as many features that are in the usual Photoshop (menu above).

HOW TO CORRECT A BROWNED PHOTO?
As an introduction, I chose the picture “Chelubey struggling with overexposure”, which is already familiar to many. This joke of Anton Martynov fits in perfectly with the topic of the article. Especially since the task of recovering overexposed photos looks both complicated and comic. But let’s order.
So that readers who understand processing do not waste their time, I will answer briefly. When overexposure, a photographic material or a matrix gets an excess exposure, which leads to excessive brightness of the resulting image and compression of lights. Simply put, the contrast decreases in the highlights. Thus, to correct overexposed areas it is necessary to darken them, with an increase in the contrast of the highlights. INTERVIEW WITH PHOTO CLASSIC: HENRI CARTIER-BRESSON
Henri Cartier-Bresson: For me, photography is the simultaneous recognition of the significance of an event, as well as the determination of its exact form in a split second, which gives this event a special expressiveness. I believe that a thinking person, having known himself, at the same time discovers the world around him, which can change him, and which he himself can influence. There must be a balance between the inner world of a person and the outside world. As a result of constant influence on each other, these two worlds will merge into one. And it is this one world that is worth revealing (in the photo).
But this is only the content of the photo. For me, content is inseparable from form. By form, I mean strict geometric organization of lines, textures and values. Only in such an organization, our emotions and intentions become concrete and clear. Continue reading
