How to find your creative style with “Split Toning”

In my opinion, the most underrated tool of Lightroom is “Separate Tinting”. Meanwhile, this is not only a great opportunity to correct many problems in a photograph, but also a great way to develop your own creative style of image processing.
If you are not familiar with “Separate toning”, then its essence is the following – you apply a specific shade separately to the shadows and lights of the picture in order to get the separation of colors without changing the brightness.
Below is a great example of how Split Toning works. This is a standard gradient map, from pure black to pure white, which demonstrates how shadows translate into light: Continue reading

HOW TO USE THE NATURAL FRAMING TO IMPROVE PHOTOS

To make more interesting and beautiful photos, there are certain key techniques of composition. One of the widely known is natural framing. But, like all the rules and tips, requires careful and thoughtful application. Using such framing correctly, you can create extremely impressive and elegant images. Natural framing is the use of an element in its image to frame an object. This leads the viewer’s attention and attention to the inside of the photo and emphasizes the object.
The inner frame can be built using many simple details: tree branches, arches, tunnels, door frames, etc., and even with the help of non-solid matters, such as light, shadows, rain, fog, etc. It doesn’t matter what you use.
Framing is a technique that should be used sparingly, but when it is appropriate, it looks very natural. So few people use it wisely, that if you can master this technique, you will become the creator of fantastic pictures.
Why use natural framing?

INTERVIEW WITH PHOTO CLASSIC: HENRI CARTIER-BRESSON

Henri Cartier-Bresson: For me, photography is the simultaneous recognition of the significance of an event, as well as the determination of its exact form in a split second, which gives this event a special expressiveness. I believe that a thinking person, having known himself, at the same time discovers the world around him, which can change him, and which he himself can influence. There must be a balance between the inner world of a person and the outside world. As a result of constant influence on each other, these two worlds will merge into one. And it is this one world that is worth revealing (in the photo).
But this is only the content of the photo. For me, content is inseparable from form. By form, I mean strict geometric organization of lines, textures and values. Only in such an organization, our emotions and intentions become concrete and clear. Continue reading
