9 FAMOUS PHOTOGRAPHS WHERE YOU NEED TO LEARN

Do you rarely come across good portrait photos, or have no idea which ones are good? You have already understood that photographic vision is that skill that no one can teach you?
Without seeing good photos, it’s impossible to learn how to take good photos yourself. For the short history of the existence of digital photography, authors have appeared a lot, and to highlight the best among them is a real problem. That is why you need to learn from the best of the best. It can be both classics of photography, and well-known modern photographers. Below we will get acquainted with the 9th of them (approx. – division by genre is conditional. Many of the authors below are filmed in various genres).
Street and reportage portrait
Antanas Sutkus is one of the best representatives of the Baltic school of artistic photography. Founder of the Lithuanian Photo Art Union, a classic of Soviet photography. Sutkus’s works are in the collections of the world’s most important libraries and museums. In the entire history of the photographer’s work more than 120 solo exhibitions have been organized.
Vivian Mayer – a street photographer, whose works have become a real discovery for photographic light. Working as a governess and nanny in American families, Vivian devoted all her free time to her passion for photography. She never printed her work, and didn’t even show most of the films, but she kept the footage carefully. After the death, the author’s property was put up for auction – so Mayer’s many years of work fell into the hands of historian John Maloof, who, realizing the value of the material that came to him, devoted his life to popularizing the name of Mayer and her work.
Lyalya Kuznetsova is one of the best representatives of unofficial Soviet photography. The author’s series entitled “Gypsies”, which shows the opposite, unknown to the philistine side of the Gypsy life, has become most famous. Lyalya Kuznetsova has been shooting a gypsy for over 30 years. Her photos took part in multiple exhibitions, and the author himself lacked only one voice to become the second Russian photographer in the agency Magnum.
Art and genre portrait
Oleg Videnin is a popular Russian photographer whose works wonderfully reflect the faces of the Russian province. His series “Portraits from the Suburbs”, “Hotel”, and “Shoulder” are known not only in Russia, but also abroad thanks to numerous exhibitions and publications. Oleg is very popular among the amateur photographers of Runet – the number of users who have reviewed his work in a short period is about 40,000.
Robert Duano is one of the classics of French photography, who has worked in numerous genres, from street photography to a custom portrait. Robert loved his city, so a large layer of his work is devoted to life on the streets of Paris, including stories from the lives of children. The name of the photographer named several elementary schools in Paris.
Arnold Newman – one of the creators of the genre “portrait in the interior.” Images portrayed by famous artists, actors, other artists, as well as politicians skillfully intertwined with the interior in which they are located, and objects that are an integral part of the life of his characters.
Horst P. Horst is one of the founders of the fashion photography genre. Horst’s style is often associated with the “Vogue” style, and the photographer himself is called the magician of the world. Light drawing on the photographs of the author can not be confused with the work of other photographers. To give the volume of black and white portraits, Horst developed his own lighting technique.
Richard Avedon is a recognized master of fashion photography. Many modern photographers consider his work a photographic textbook. Avedon himself saw himself not only as a fashion style popularizer, but as a portrait photographer, and was also fond of a reportage portrait. Of great value are both fashion-style photos and celebrity portraits taken by Avedon.
William Klein – a famous American portrait photographer, working mainly in the style of fashion. I came to a photo from painting, having discovered its wonderful property to transfer the figure’s plasticity. The photographer also enjoys artistic portrait and street photography. His book on New Yorkers caused a public outcry in his native America (still not published), although it is printed in many countries around the world.
